Summer Camps and Classes 2020!
Pentatonix Singing Class is New this year!!! We also have our 11th Annual, super popular "Best Piano Camp EVER", and our 9th annual "Composition Camp" this year!!! Our activities are designed to be inspiring, and to bring out the absolute best in every student. This camp gives students the time to build musical confidence, by helping students to feel good challenging themselves, and realize that they can reach their highest dreams.

Our camps and classes are like no others. For camps, each student gets their own private rehearsal room, with a new Yamaha Piano and other musical tools. We have computers and iPads, set up with music notation software and games, for our students to use. We have a 3/1 student/teacher ratio in our camps, something no one else in California does. This means every student gets a lot of one-on -one interaction. Our students get the very best and most inspiring music instruction possible.
Our teachers are the best of the best when it comes to inspiring the LOVE of music! Both of our piano camps this year will be led by Mr. Steve Silberstein and Ms. Lori Silvestri, both teachers who have won our prestigious "Teacher of the Year" awards. Our Pentatonix Singing camp will be led by teVelde Founder, Dr. Bonnie teVelde.
Our composition camp will have a surprise guest professor this year... the name will be announced in May!!! (In the past we have had such famous composers as Dr. Kevin Olson, Wynn-Anne Rossi, and Dr. teVelde.) Our adult and teenaged students have written multi-instrumental orchestral arrangements, and solo piano works. Eight year old and up, beginning music students, have also started the process of learning to compose with simple, but elegant, compositions. In short, any age and any level of student is welcome in our semi-private camps. We never know where the next genius composer will come from, but if they are amongst the attendees of this camp, we will make sure they know it!

​Best Piano Camp Ever! //​ Taught by our Amazing Piano Teaching Team
Every year parents, who are new to us, ask me how we will keep their child engaged for two hours, during the day, in the summer. They can't conceive of an environment where their child would want to be indoors, playing piano, for that amount of time. All we can say is... every year parents show up at 12pm to pick up their children, and their children simply do NOT want to leave. Our piano camp is THAT fun. We have a very small number of openings... only 12 students maximum, per camp.

These very small camps are for piano students who want to learn fast and take their musicianship to the next level! We help students build confidence by showing students how to think musically, and how to learn effectively every day. We give them many tools for learning to create fluid performances of beautiful piano works. Students learn how to play effectively, every day, and conquer learning how to learn with effective practice strategies. They will learn to listen to each note, with our multi-sensory full-color method, which will begin to create a foundation of perfect pitch in their minds. (Perfect absolute pitch is the Holy Grail of music, and we teach it at our conservatory!!!)
Each student gets to choose a super fun solo to play, and also gets to play music with a friend. At the end of the first week, if the student has already conquered their chosen piece, they will choose another. At the end of the second week, students will perform their pieces for parents and friends at our conservatory.

Students will learn how to speed read music notes, both on the treble and bass clefs. They will play fun games learning how to do rhythms on the drums, and they will begin learning the basics of perfect absolute pitch with our proprietary, multi-sensory method, "SensAPitch"! Perfect pitch allows them to hear a note, without an instrumental reference, and identify it. This ability allows them to read music, and hear it inside their minds. It allows them to look at a line of music, and play it mentally before they play it on the piano. For students having a hard time with reading music, we show them how to look at each note from a multi-sensory perspective, so that they represent more than just black notes on white paper.

Students who are interested in learning to tutor* may also stay for the tutor training camp from 12:30-2:30pm. Tutors must be at least 9 yrs old and at level 2 in order to tutor, but they may take the tutor training earlier with approval from their teacher. Tutor training teaches students how to explain what they are learning to another student, which gives them a unique insight into music theory and ear training. There is a $25 discount for combining these camps.

Teacher/Tutor Training Camp//

We have had many students, who started lessons as young children, learn how to tutor. We have also had adult students take this camp, and eventually become tutors and teachers at our conservatory. We have also had students as young as 8 years old take this camp. The bottom line is, all absolutely love learning how to teach the material they have been learning.
We believe that the best way to permanently learn a concept is to teach it to someone else. When students learn to teach the musical concepts they have learned, they integrate the knowledge on a much deeper level. Every teVelde student who has passed level one on their instrument, is eligible to learn how to tutor and teach piano. Students who teach end up becoming the best students in our conservatory, because they learn to perceive the concepts from a teacher's wholistic perspective. The camp teaches musical concepts again, from the ground up, but from a teacher's perspective.

This camps is for kids who love being in charge, and feel a real calling to share music with others. This camp is the first step to becoming a certified teacher at teVelde. Students will learn how to:

Composition Camp // All Levels

This camp is perfect for students of all ages who love to write and compose their own music or want to learn how! Our teachers make composition accessible for any level musician, from the most advanced to the beginning music student. Students will grow their creative musical skills, get valuable feedback from a master instructor, as well as peers, and come out with a song or piece of music that's their very own! Open to adults and children, ages 8 and up.

Prerequisite: Students must have basic knowledge of an instrument, equivalent to approximately six (6) months of study. ​ Adult Composers are welcome.
ONE SESSION, ONE WEEK:
When: July 6-10, 10am-12p.m., Monday through Friday.

Recording Arts Camp // All Ages, All Levels

This class is for all students who want to learn the basics of recording your own original music with garage band. Pairing this class with the composition camp is the perfect option for creative students. Students will learn to use a multi-track recording system, and how to lay down rhythm tracks, a solid bass line, and how to layer chord progressions over the top. They will learn how to create a melody line, and have a chance to sing over the top if they choose. They can also work with other musicians in the camp, as a team, to help them with drum, guitar, piano, or vocal tracks. The musicians in class will also be encouraged to collaborate with each other with some of the instrumentation needed for each composition.
Students may combine this camp with the Composition Camp, and they can use the class time to create a digital recording of their composition. Adults who want to learn how to record their own music are also welcome.

The price of this camp is discounted $25 if taken at the same time as the Composition Camp.

Pentatonix Vocal CLASS// If You LOVE TO SING, this is it!!!
​
Do you need an activity that is PURE FUN in your week? If you love to sing, and you love the Pentatonix and their songs, this is your class!!! Whether you are a teen or an adult, this camp will focus on your favorite Pentatonix songs, teaching you the harmonies and blending that it takes to sing barbershop music. Spend 12 glorious weeks singing nothing but Pentatonix favorites, and learning how to sing harmonies accurately and in a perfect blend. You don't need any experience with singing, only a desire to learn to sing with others in a super fun class! This is a weekly singing vacation that may look like work to everyone else... but we know better.

For those of you who know who the Pentatonix are, this class will teach you how to sing in harmony like Kirstin, Avi, Mitch, Matt, and Scott do. If you don't know who these people are, go to youtube and type in Pentatonix. This group is the most popular barbershop quintet of all time, and their songs include a traditional 4-part harmony combined with a Beat Boxer for rhythm and drums. It is the most upbeat, exciting, and thrilling popular music you will ever sing. You and your class-mates will vote on your favorite Pentatonix song to sing, and we will all learn it together. Suggestions would be "Hallelujah", "Somebody that I used to Know", "Can't Sleep Love", "Starships", or any of their Christmas tunes.
If you have friends who love the Pentatonix too, invite them to sing in this class with you. If you have tickets to the July 22nd concert at the Mid State Fair, we can all go to the Pentatonix concert and sing the songs together! We will give you more information on the concert when you come to class. For those who want to sing even more Pentatonix songs, and are already familiar with the songs and their harmonies, we will have a break out advanced group that will perform at local venues. But first things first!!! Let's get you singing like you've never done it before... with lots of laughs and excitement! Invite your friends... It's on.
