The Best is Affordable

Our commitment to you is that we will keep your lessons affordable, while offering you the most highly educated teachers, experts at not only their instrument(s) of choice, but at the art of teaching to every type of learner and personality. Every teacher at teVelde Music understands that the opportunity of teaching music as a profession is a dream come true, and that working with you and your children is a great honor. Because very few musicians have the opportunity to become trained teachers, and have the personality to be effective at it, the teachers that work at teVelde Music are a very rare find.

Our teachers are positive, happy, enthusiastic, encouraging, and uplifting. Since they are personally matched to each student, and they love what they do, our teachers help students come to love music even more at every lesson. We want every child to leave asking "when are we coming back?" We want every adult so obsessed with the music they are playing, and the rate they are learning, that they can't wait to get home to play!

ADULTS: When you come in for the first lesson, we will be sitting down with you and assessing what types of education have worked with you in the past, and which ones have not. We take into account your career path and education level, and any past musical education, and look at you as a whole person. We put together a strategy to get you exactly where you want to be with music. We assess your sense of rhythm, visual, audio, and kinsthetic learning styles, and your general hand/eye coordination. The entire initial evaluation AND first lesson, which includes setting goals for the first year, takes about 90 minutes. The cost is $120. Once this evaluation and first lesson are done, we will know exactly which teacher will work best with you. You will be required to purchase text books and lesson books at this time. The approximate cost of these learning materials is $20-40. Voice students must also purchase a hand-held audio recorder.

ELEMENTARY AND TEEN AGES: When you bring in your child or teen for the initial evaluation and first lesson, we will be looking for as many musical strengths as possible to use in their lessons. We try to get a sense of what type of teacher/learning works for them at school, and what doesn't work well. From there, we do some rhythm, reading, and piano work with them to see whether they are predominantly an audio, visual, or kinesthetic learner. We help them set musical goals for themselves, select an instrument (if they haven't already done so), and choose a method book system that will work well for them. We also select a teacher that we know will be the best fit considering all of these variables. Students should go to: www.kidzmet.com, set up a free profile, and take the learning preferrences test. You can also select teVelde Music (#167) as your school, and they will send us the results of your child's profile. If you complete this process, we only have to do the first lesson and paperwork when you come in, and will only have to assess them as described above. The cost for the evaluation and first lesson is $90, and will take 75 minutes. If kidzmet evaluation is done, and brought in for the first appointment, the cost of the evaluation and first lesson will only be $75, and only take 45 min to 1 hour. You will be required to purchase lesson books at this time, as well. Cost will be $20-30, depending on level and instrument.

PRESCHOOL AGES (2-6): Parents of pre-school aged children can help us prepare to teach their children by going to www.kidzmet.com, setting up a free profile, and taking the learning assessment. You can select teVelde Music as your school (#167), and your results will be sent to us. Please bring in a printed copy of the results as well. When you have completed the kidzmet test, please email or call us and we will set up an appointment time where you can come in with your child to have a first lesson. This lesson will take 30 min, and will cost $30. During that time we will also set up your billing paperwork and regular lesson time. You will be required to purchase books at this time, as well. (approx $20) All lessons for pre-school aged children must be attended by a parent or guardian. There is no exception to this rule. Parents may sit in our state-of-the-art waiting room, which has a video monitoring system allowing parents to view the music lessons from the waiting room while they are being taught. Children of these ages are not able to comprehend the concept of "practice", nor can they be expected to "go and practice" alone. They need a significant amount of parental involvement to be successful in lessons.

Rates for individual teachers vary depending on the level of the student, the expertise of teacher required, and how uncommon or difficult the instrument is to teach/learn. Rates are based on the amount of the lesson time each week. We require that all students take at least a 30 minute lesson, once a week. We do not offer every other week lessons, or combinations of lesson times that result in less than one lesson per week. Our Instructors specialize in various musical styles, ages, and levels. We will teach a Parent & Child at the same time, in a private lesson, for the same hourly rate. (This is limited to Parent/Child) We are also open to the idea of teaching small groups, and have taught families of 3-4 members... all at the same time, for a discounted, per person, hourly rate.
