This means they will learn the piano, guitar, drum, and voice part of a song, and record it in a professional recording studio. See Summer Camp Information. July 5-16: Music Summer Camp, Session 2 Students will learn how to compose their own song, from start to finish! They will create the piano, guitar, bass, drum, and vocal parts for a song, and record it in a professional recording studio! Click on this link for Summer Camp Information. Summer/Fall, 2010 Our New Band Program starts! We are sponsoring a new band/orchestra program that will take the place of music programs in the schools. Elementary School Students Right now, music is just available for 6th graders. Elementary students who would love to learn to play an instrument, in 4th or 5th grade, are told to wait. We will accept students from 4th grade up. Students will be placed in Beginning, Intermediate, or Advanced band based on ability, not on age, so students who practice a lot can work their way up regardless of their age! Junior High School Students: For 7th & 8th graders who would really like to have the opportunity to keep playing in band, but also want to take "the wheel" in school, can take our band program and keep playing not only during the school year, but also during the summer! Individual and group instruction, for all instruments, will be available to all students! High School Students For High School students who simply can not fit band into their schedules, this will be an opportunity to for them to grow and play at a really advanced level. Strings! For string players who have no orchestra available to play in, in South SLO County, this is your opportunity! Click on this link to go to the Band/Orchestra September, 2010: South County Children's Choir Auditions. Rehearsals Begin. See SCCC schedule, click Children's Choir link here: Children's Choir October, 2010 : Guild Adjudications to be held at the East Campus (707 East Grand Avenue, Arroyo Grande). Appointment times are available on a first come, first served basis, from 10am to 4pm, both days. Please Email Bonnie for an appointment time. Why do guild? Because it is verification that your child is attending an accredited school that teaches a balanced curriculum of theory, technique, and musicianship. Every year that a child participates, their accomplishments are thoroughly documented by the judge, and you are given a certificate and a list of skills that was verified by the judge for that year. This comes in very handy when the time comes for your child to apply to college. Many students claim they have taken lessons, but this is annual documentation that your child got a balanced and thorough musical education! Who is the Judge this Year? The judge, this year, will be Ms. Karen Foreman. Ms. Foreman has been a professor of music at Allan Hancock College for over 8 years. She also has judged hundreds of guild centers, and traveled with Bonnie teVelde to judge the 2008 International Piano Competition in Harbin, China. Ms. Foreman is not only an incredibly talented musician, in her own right, but a positive, encouraging, and uplifting judge that looks for the good in every student.
