Bringing Music to the Elderly, Sick, and the Community, One Shining Star at a Time....
After a sabbatical of four years, the South County Children's Choir is again beginning it's unique mission to bring musical education to the children of the South San Luis Obispo County Area. After founding the choir in 1997, and directing it for 7 years, I decided to take a break for a few years, as directing the choir was a massive job when we completed our, 2 year in the making, production of "Cats" in the Fall of 2004.
Now, under the leadership of Deanna Delore, a new voice teacher at the teVelde School of Music with extensive experience in the areas of choir and children's voice, the South County Children's Choir is going to start up again with renewed energy! Not only will we have all of the perks of old, including our popular "badge" system (where students earn "girl-scout" like badges for things like learning to: read music, play an instrument, conduct, sing a solo, etc.), but we will be adding new things like 3 part harmonies, singing in multi-languages, and fun, jazzy accompaniments.
Deanna not only has a beautiful voice, but she has the energy to make this season the most fun one yet! I've been looking for a good voice teacher for years, and I've finally found the treasure I was looking for. You will see and hear what I mean when you come to your first rehearsal!
CD's:
We will be recording a CD annually, as usual, so be ready to have yourself immortalized in song. Boo-Boo's records is gracious enough to carry our CD's every year that we have recorded them, and we always have some really neat photos for the CD covers.
CHOIR GOALS :
- That the children will learn that music is about more than getting something for themselves... it's about giving to others who have no way of "paying them back".
- That community service gives a form of happiness that is one of the highest forms of compensation for hard work that one can get.
- That the children will be learning from a professional vocal teacher, who will be working with each student, teaching them how to sing correctly.
- That the children will be exposed to music they would not ordinarily come into contact with... music of higher quality, with complex harmonies, interchanging melodies, and expressive choreography.
- That each child will find his/her own way, some time during the season, to give to another human being that can't pay it back, through sharing music in a personal way.

REHEARSAL SCHEDULE:
Rehearsals will begin Monday, October 22, at 3:45p.m. They will be held at the Echo Art Space, which is located at 431 Leoni Drive, Grover Beach, CA. Click on the link to the map at the bottom of this page. Please be a little early so you have time to find the location, and walk your student in for the first rehearsal. The first rehearsal will last about 1 1/2 hours, so be ready to pick up your student at 5:15p.m. Please do not arrive after 5:30, as there may be other events taking place at the Echo Art Space that evening. Your tuition should be paid in full before attending that day, but if you have not yet paid, make sure your student brings a check for the full tuition.
Rehearsals will be held, thereafter, on a weekly basis on Mondays from 3:45-5:15p.m. There may be times where we will be working with various groups of children, and your student will not be needed. We will make those times clear to you at the rehearsals, so that you know when to pick up or drop of your student at a different time that day. There may also be additional rehearsals required to complete the repertoire for this season's performances. Those rehearsals will be posted, as soon as we are aware of them, on this web site. You will also get a flyer sent home with your student updating you on any additional rehearsals.
TUITION:
The tuition for the Children's Choir is $135 per quarter, plus a $15 materials fee. That means your initial tuition for this season will be $150, and you will be paid in full until January, 2008.
